With the age wave approaching, the first generation of openly LGBTQ-identified seniors will require in-home or institutional long-term care. Yet recent studies show that one-in-three
LGBTQ seniors worries about facing discrimination as they age. That’s one of the reasons why more than 200 people are expected Tuesday to discuss the specific needs of LGBTQ seniors and develop a strategic plan to prepare for the aging community. About 69,000 LGBTQ seniors currently live in the Washington, but that population is expected to swell to nearly 111,000 by 2030, according to statistical trends.
